THIS YEAR'S MAIN STAGE PERFORMERS

image 1   Mabon

Mabon's musical roots lie deeply in the traditional music of its Celtic heritage, which provides the inspiration and the foundation for talented accordionist/composer Jamie Smith's original brand of new interceltic music. Whereas many contemporary folk groups endeavour to push forward the boundaries, Mabon simply ignore them, creating music purely for music's sake and in a manner that not only pleases themselves, but all who watch them play.

Mabon took the folk scene by storm in 2007 with a series of memorable concerts including Llangollen International Eisteddfod and Cambridge Folk Festival. Coupled with the success of their critically-acclaimed album, OK Pewter – ‘a huge grin of an album...hold it in your hands soon.’ (fRoots) – the band is now regarded as Wales’ premier Celtic export.

Saturday night's finishing act and all we can say is Bring it On!

Beck Sian

& Michelle Chandler

What do you get if you take two Australian singer songwriters, both also accomplished instrumentalists, with completely different individual styles and put them together? The answer is Beck and Michelle! An exciting combination that we're really looking forward to, and are extremely glad to have with us.

One String Loose

Since 2003, Welsh Folk-fusion band One String Loose have been exciting audiences around the UK and Europe with their complex, dynamic arrangements of traditional and self penned tunes, performed with jaw-dropping virtuosity and infectious joie de vivre. Their innovative style of folk – fusion has been captivating all manner of people: fellow musicians, casual listeners, purists, grandmothers, teenagers, small random children … and your good selves this weekend! We can't wait to see them here and hope you'll agree.

image 1   Triban

Rapidly making a name for themselves, Triban brings together the talents of award winning harpist Harriet Earis, singer/songwriter and guitarist Ian Wyn Rowlands and fiddle player Jasper Salmon. They play sensitive arrangements of both traditional and self penned songs in Welsh and English, along with lively sets of tunes from across the Celtic tradition.

It's been a good year for them with several festival performances, alongside TV and radio appearances and we're sure you'll love them as the weekend rounds off for another year on Sunday evening.

image 1   Kate Binningsley

Kate has been playing guitar and song writing since the age of 7. Now at 21, having been involved with several bands in the Northwest of England and Mid Wales, she performs her own material as a solo artist.

Kate’s sound is distinguished by her heartfelt and introspective vocals and her rhythmic and percussive guitar technique. Kate has been compared to Rickie Lee Jones, Natalie Merchant, and Joni Mitchell, and has been heavily influenced by the song writing of Tom Waits & Bob Dylan. Kate’s music has also received support from singer/ songwriters Amy Wadge, Sandi Thom & Thea Gilmore, and has enjoyed great reviews from Folk and Roots magazine, MU magazine and Acoustic magazine. A great singer for Saturday night's line up.

Blueb1rd

Blueb1rd was formed by Calista Williams and Patrick Kavanagh ('06) and are currently based in Aberystwyth (Wales, UK). Their songs are sometimes amusing, sometimes thoughtful and always delivered with great warmth and feeling. Friday evening would be a little less charming without them.

As they say.... " We try to sing from the heart, keep the sound spare and write as honestly as we can"

We think it works and are really looking forward to seeing them back in Devil's Bridge.

image 1   Strange Fruit

After a great set on Saturday night last year as After Midnight, we're very happy to have them back again finishing the Friday night gig off.

Catch some of their set from last year on our youtube link here

A great band to get you up on your feet dancing into the night.

Quercus Burlesque

In wildest west Wales, beneath the grave of Taliesin, a curious brew has been stewing... The driving bassline weaves around the domestic industrial beats of contemporary kitchenware, whilst voluptuous melodies escape the corsets of conformity. Quercy by name, and quirky by nature... they have a sound that ranges from darkly haunting, through sultry 'n' sleazy, to upbeat crowd-rocking.

Sounds to us like a fine way to start a Saturday night!

image 1   Magic Carpet

Three of west Wales’s top musicians form Magic Carpet: Peter Stacey on saxophone and flute, Paul Uden on guitar and Kelly Smith on tabla and pakhawaj. Peter is currently working with India’s leading sitarist, Nishat Khan, on a concerto to be performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra in South Bank in 2009. He has been commissioned by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and was nominated for the British Composer awards in 2004. Paul has played the guitar since he was 19, and has played with Kiki Dee, Sugar Minnott, Herbie Flowers and Billy Jenkins. Both Peter and Paul regularly play with world jazz dance combo Mojas. Kelly has studied classical Indian percussion with renowned masters Samir Chattergee in New York and Sanju Sahai, in London. He was also a member of the UK National South Asian Music Orchestra, Tarang. A really great part of Saturday afternoon's goings on.

James Moss

A multi talented singer songwriter, guitarist, bassist and who knows what else, he seems to us to be a man who can turn his hand to a myriad musical ventures and be pretty good at all of them. Difficult in the extreme to pigeonhole, we're looking forward to finding out which one of his musical heads he brings with him to the stage on Sunday, although whichever it turns out to be, it'll be grand!

Whisky Before Breakfast

Ever popular on the local scene here in Mid Wales, Whisky Before Breakfast have been playing in various line ups for as long as any of them can remember. Fiddle driven, their mixture of celtic tunes and different song arrangements should get you on your feet. A lively inclusion on Friday evening!

Aband

One of the many fruits of the womb of Aberystwyth’s ‘living room.’  Yup in these crazy times of hyperbole it may sound strange but Aband are just that. Breaking generic boundaries like a many fevered thing, this band is old school in attitude but liberal of beat, so come a little closer and free your feet!

My Ceramic Rabbit

My Ceramic Rabbit are a three piece band from Llwynypia, which is a small destination found in the Rhondda Valleys, Wales.
The band play a combonation of Rock n Roll, Pop n Soul, Which comes from they're eclectic musicical interests.

Described as "The Beatles meets The Jam", should be a great set on Saturday afternoon!
